Traditional Aboriginal Animal Art by Leslie Nawirridj, depicting the kangaroo, echidna, crocodile and others native to the Arnhem Land country of the Kunwinjku Aboriginal people.Leslie is skilled in painting in x-ray, an ancient indigenous style of artwork begun by his ancestors thousands of years ago. The Kunwinjku ancestors painted in x-ray on the rocks of Western Arnhem Land.
The fine-line cross-hatching, called "rarrk", is from the Kunwinjku Aboriginal ceremonial painting. Leslie produces a high quality rarrk, with great accuracy and precision, which comes from many years of practising the technique.
